ABOUT ME

Ococo Creative is a one woman (and one dog) show! My name is Romney McPhie and I am a marine biologist (M.Sc.) and environmental scientist (B.Sc.) by training, a mom, and a self-taught illustrator who is always trying to find more time to draw, carve, or doodle in a quiet room with a good tea. I am drawn to clean, black and white, pen and ink illustrations and linocut block prints, and strive for detail, scientific accuracy, or a good dose of whimsy in my art. I am particularly fond of drawing marine creatures, from the small spiny lumpsucker or spot prawn to the enormous blue whale, and am especially enamoured with the cartilaginous fishes (sharks, skates, rays, and chimaeras) with which we share our blue planet. My art currently enriches educational and interpretive materials, scientific journals, and apparel, and I hope to one day create a mural, even if it's in my own backyard.

(My favourite shark is the Basking Shark, and my favourite tea is a chai latte with coconut milk).
